Indian Skirt & Cardigan

I liked the texture on this indian/tribal skirt, the sparkling silver dots and the silk just goes so well together. Here are the pictures of front and back of the skirt, there are also beautifully hand stitched patterns on the waist.

But do I really want to wear a skirt that glamorous in my daily life? I don’t think so, I liked the silky fabric more than the skirt. So I just need to find a solution to turn the skirt into an article of clothing that I would actually wear in my daily life.

After much brainstorming, I came up with the idea of a cardigan. it would be so nice to have a silky cardigan with beautiful indian patterns on it, lets do it! First, tear off the sewed stitch on the back of the skirt, and separate the waist. Now, they looked like this.FullSizeRender_1

I proceeded to cut the armholes and the sleeves, I used the lining of the fabric for sleeves, the lining is not silk, but the color of the lining match with the silk fabric. I also placed the waist belt on the neck lines as you can see from the picture under. Those pictures show different colors under different lights, but they are same pieces.

Next is to sew them together, once I finished sewing, they look like this. This cardigan could be much more useful than a skirt, I am sure that I will like to wear it more often, because it is a unique, and comfortable piece. I could wear a tank-top under it other things such as jeans, legging, or tight skirt as well as it would all go with this cardigan.

The front opening lines is not very flatting, and the sleeves seem need some work. What about cut the front opening as curve lines, and make the sleeves fit arm better?

Lets look at the before & after picture again, I am glad I did this, I like the cardigan so much better! Do you want to turn an unwanted  skirt into something else, give a new life to dated clothes, work on the creative process and enjoy the result!
